About
Lindsey Levenson
I've been providing individual, family, and group therapy on the central coast for over fifteen years. Originally from South Lake Tahoe, I became accustomed to living in beautiful surroundings and so it was a logical step to relocate to San Luis Obispo to pursue my graduate degree in Psychology at Cal Poly. Immersed in the warm weather and with the ocean just a short drive away, I was hooked, and so decided to plant my roots down and stay for awhile. Diagnosed with cancer in 2012, I became all too familiar with the unpredictability of life and the challenges we sometimes have to unexpectedly face. I realized coming out of that experience that I now possessed the very special ability to connect with the suffering of others from a deeply personal place while also having the training and the expertise to help. I became re-energized in my passion for utilizing the human connection that’s possible in therapy as a means of overcoming life’s obstacles.

My approach to therapy is a collaborative one. I believe that you have within you the capacity for healing and growth and we will work together to help you find what you need to start making changes and to feel better. I use a combination of Existential, Humanistic, and Cognitive Behavioral interventions. Existential therapy focuses on the idea that we are all searching for meaning in our lives. Humanistic therapy values the strong relationship between therapist and client as the biggest agent of change. Research has even supported that a strong, trusting relationship with your therapist is the greatest predictor of symptom relief. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focuses on how our thoughts impact our feelings and behaviors. By changing the way we think about ourselves and what is happening in our world, we can ultimately change the way we feel. When we feel better we behave in the world in a more engaged and productive manner.
